As a reminder, the Windows 11 upgrade for MU devices will become mandatory and start being pushed automatically on August 4, 2025. This upgrade typically takes about an hour, but can take up to 3 hours and you may not be able to use your computer for the duration. To limit disruption, users are encouraged to upgrade on their own schedule ahead of the forced upgrades. CRMC devices are being upgraded through a different system and are not affected by this process.
S Situation
Support for the Windows 10 operating system ends on October 14th 2025 so we need to upgrade existing systems to Windows 11. To allow users to upgrade at a time that works for them, we have added the upgrade to Software Center for MU imaged computers. Starting the week of August 4th we will begin forcing this upgrade. CRMC imaged computers will be using a different process. ________________________________________________________________________________
B Background
With Windows 10 support ending in October, we need to get all Windows 10 devices updated to Windows 11. If your hardware supports the upgrade, it will be available in Software Center. _________________________________________________________________________________
A Assessment
We are asking that users upgrade their computers at a time that works best for them to avoid the process initiating at an inopportune time. This process will take between 1 and 3 hours and the computer will reboot a few times. You will be able to work for the initial portion, which will be the majority of the time, however you will only have 60 seconds to save changes once the device needs to restart. If you are working during this process, you will want to make sure you keep an eye on the progress bar and save often.
If your computer is still on Windows 10 and you do not see the Windows 11 upgrade available in Software Center, please contact the Help Desk (573-884-4357) so we can schedule an in-person upgrade/computer replacement.
We recommend upgrading at your earliest convenience. To do so, open Software Center by clicking the Start Menu (Windows logo) in the lower-right and scroll down to Microsoft Configuration Manager and click on the folder and then Software Center. Once in Software Center, click on Operating Systems and, if your machine is eligible, you will see Windows 11 24H2 Upgrade. Click on the upgrade and then click Install. ___________________________________________________________________________________
Any issues following this work, please report to the help desk.
Please communicate this change to staff.
